As we mentioned in a previous blog, apple cider vinegar aids in weight loss, but want about black seed oil and raw honey?

Honey’s Little Secret

A study published by the Journal of the American College of Nutrition revealed that honey could curb appetite. Another study published in 2010, titled “Effect of honey versus sucrose on appetite, appetite-regulating hormones, and postmeal thermogenesis,” conducted a double-blind experiment in which they examined hunger levels between 14 healthy individuals after eating breakfast. A portion of the participants was given a breakfast containing approximately 450 kcal of honey, and the other participants were given approximately the same amount but containing sucrose, instead. The study examined the appetite hormones of the participants, and they found that the participants who were fed the breakfast containing honey had a delay on their postprandial ghrelin response when compared with the sucrose group. However, both groups didn’t significantly differ in hunger ratings or food intake.

What is a postprandial ghrelin response?

To understand what that means, let’s break the words down. “Post” means after, and prandial means during or related to food consumption. Postprandial ghrelin response then means the body’s response after a meal is eaten. This response relates to the hormone ghrelin, so, in short, the researchers looked at the levels of ghrelin in response to the meal consumed.

A postprandial ghrelin response is a signal for meal initiation. Before we eat, a hormone known as ghrelin rises sharply, increasing our appetite. Ghrelin is a special gut hormone that activates a receptor, making us feel hungry; it also stimulates the release of growth hormones. Ghrelin is triggered to release when we eat and when the stomach is empty (such as during fasting). In short, the study mentioned before stated that individuals who were fed honey didn’t feel hungry as quickly as the individuals who were fed sucrose after they ate their respective breakfast.

Black seed oil and weight loss

Black seed oil is special; because it contains essential B vitamins, it can boost your metabolism, which will increase the passive burning of fat. This can lead to a calorie deficit and weight loss. Additionally, black seed oil suppresses the appetite naturally. These two attributes combined make black seed oil one of the most effective natural weight loss additives you can have in your daily routine.
