A Special blog by an anonymous BSO Honey User
The all too familiar feeling of stomach acid rising in your esophagus. The pain creeps up your chest and spreads like electricity through water. It feels awful; that sharp burning sensation is so intense it’s almost blinding. The remedies you’ve read online flow through your mind as you curse yourself for not picking up a bottle of tums on your way out of the store last night.
Milk? But you’re lactose intolerant.
Ah, this sucks. It’s nighttime; why now? You just want to get to sleep so you can get up early enough to wake the kids for school, but if you lay down now, the pain will travel up further and only get worse.
Sounds familiar?
Heartburn sucks, and I’ve never met anyone who would describe the experience as “pleasant.”
Whether triggered by a weakened esophageal sphincter, the food you ate, or strong stomach acid, saying heartburn is a real nuisance is an understatement. Heartburn or acid reflux is a painful burning sensation typically in the chest (though it can also be higher up, such as in the throat/neck area). This pain is caused by stomach acid entering and traveling up the esophagus. More often than not, heartburn is worsened after eating, in the evenings, and when laying down.
If you’ve been suffering from heartburn for a while, chances are you have a few quick home remedies that you already know work for you, but let me offer you an unexpected solution.
Now, I know what you’re thinking “won’t the apple cider vinegar in the product make my heartburn worse? That doesn’t sound very smart.”
Therein lies the surprising part.
A bit of anecdotal evidence.
My significant other suffers from terrible acid reflux sometimes, so much to the point where it honestly felt like he was going to have to go to the hospital. It’s one of the scariest things I’ve witnessed. I’ve known people who had bad heartburn and acid reflux to where they had to make changes to their daily life and sleeping position just to cope, but this was entirely different. The man was laid out on the floor, pale as the sun is bright and covered in sweat. The pain must have been immense to bring one of the strongest men I know to his knees. And I’m not kidding when I say his pain tolerance is scary high. He’s the type of man to scrape all the skin off his arm and not notice until blood is oozing out the wound and dripping on the floor.
When it (the heartburn incident) first happened, he thought he was having a heart attack (lord only knows why we didn’t have an ambulance called to haul his ass to the hospital then and there), but thankfully it passed after a few (terrifying) hours. Once this happened a couple of times, we knew something had to change. One night, as he felt the heartburn clambering up his chest, he decided to take some BSO Honey, and within a couple of minutes, the heartburn was gone! I personally thought it was a fluke until he tried it again a couple of nights later with the same results.
What the heck was going on? This was working against everything I thought I knew about how acids interact with the stomach. Surely adding another acid to the mix would be akin to throwing matches on a fire in an attempt to put it out, but there he was, peacefully asleep as if he wasn’t in mind-numbing pain just moments before, all because of an acidic product.
I couldn’t believe it! I had to look into this. What was in Black Seed Oil Infused Honey that could actually help alleviate acid reflux?
Well, as it turns out, a lot.
First, off the ingredient most in question, Apple Cider Vinegar is actually a popular (and apparently common) natural remedy for heartburn. Saying this is counterintuitive somehow feels like an understatement, but it’s true!
What about the other ingredients?
As it turns out, they can help too!
The viscosity of honey can help keep acids down. And finally, black seed oil, the magical potion that is said to cure everything but death itself, can alleviate indigestion and heartburn and even provide relief and reduce the presence of a certain bacteria that can lead to stomach ulcers!
Perhaps Black Seed Oil Infused Honey was the perfect combination of ingredients to alleviate my snookums heartburn.
Word of warning: Some acidic foods (including ACV) can cause heartburn, so while I think it’s incredible that it worked for my significant other, I want you to remember that every BODY is different, so just because it worked for him doesn’t mean that it’s a magic cure-all.
Also, the research is mixed on whether honey can help with acid reflux; some say it can alleviate and soothe acid reflux, while others say that because it can pull additional water into the intestinal tract, it could trigger acid reflux symptoms (as too much water is in the gastrointestinal tract can trigger acid reflux).
And finally, black seed oil, the harbinger of health, does come with the unfortunate side effect of causing indigestion and upset stomachs in some.
Try it if you want, see if it works, but if it doesn’t, then that’s okay too. The supplement can still provide your body with other incredible benefits that can improve your health.
